Valentine’s Day Cocktail: Spicy Lover’s Margarita

Meet a hot lover. This Valentine’s Day cocktail has a little bit of everything!

Fresh muddled blueberry margarita, infused with spicy jalapeno tequila and surrounded by pop rocks. This spicy baby packs a punch and is definitely fun to drink!

Secret the edges of your margarita glass with pop rocks

The secret to making those pop rocks stick? It’s honey, my dear!

Dip the rims of a cocktail glass in a little honey and then in your favorite flavor of Pop Rocks. I personally like strawberries or watermelon for this recipe but you can get creative.

Or offer your friends all kinds of flavors to choose from! You’ll feel like a kid again in no time…with a little extra tequila, of course. Cheers to a hot Valentine’s Day!

The best tequila for this Valentine’s Day cocktail

For margaritas, I usually use reposado or anejo tequila. What is the difference?

Mostly, old age time. Reposado tequilas are aged from two months to one year in oak. It’s great for margaritas and other mixed drinks, as the slight amount of aging dilutes the flavor a bit.

Añejo tequilas are aged between one and three years. Añejo may be a tequila, but with its rich flavors it can be great in a cocktail as well.

Do some experiments and see which one you like best in this Valentine’s Day cocktail!

Other ways to personalize a hot lover

Although I think the Pop Rocks edge is a lot of fun, it may not be for you! In this case, you can make a traditional salt rim – it’s simple Salt edge kit This works fine.

If you want to stick with a sweet flavor, just decorate it with some sugar. You can also create a spicy sugar mixture by mixing a little chili powder into a little sugar and piping it into the edges.

Fun serving glasses

If you’re making a Valentine’s Day cocktail to share with someone you love, you should serve it with something special!

You can go the traditional way Margarita glass way (I also love this one Stemless glassesReally amazing!).

I think for this cocktail, I prefer it served in a bowl Modern rock glass. these Mid-century modern rock glasses It might actually be my favorite!

Ingredients for spicy margarita lovers

Spicy Lover (makes two cocktails)

1/4 cup fresh blueberries – Fresh is best, but you can use frozen in a pinch!

1 ounce fresh lemon juice – Again, fresh lemon juice makes the best margaritas!

4 ounces reposado or anejo tequila – Choose your favorite!

1 1/2 ounces pomegranates – To switch up the flavour, you can use traditional cherry-flavored grenadine.

Fresh jalapeno

ice -Having made the recipe a few times since we shared this blog post (workshop = basically drinking cocktails), I have to say I prefer crushed ice for this cocktail.

Honey or agave nectar to rim the glass -The aloe vera will taste a little less sweet than the honey, but either is fine.

Pop Rocks Candy for Glass Edges – Use salt if you prefer to change the flavour.

Additional berries for garnish, optional

How to make a spicy cocktail for Valentine’s Day

Note: To infuse the jalapeno flavor into the tequila, we recommend letting it steep overnight. This step isn’t necessary but it will give your margarita that spicy taste we love!

  1. In a bowl, combine tequila and jalapenos cut in half lengthwise. Allow to sit tightly closed overnight.
  2. Strain the jalapeno before using.
  3. Dip the rim of your cocktail glass in honey and then in Pop Rocks.
  4. In a cocktail shaker, mix the blueberries and lemon juice until the blueberries are broken up.
  5. Add tequila, grenadine, and a handful of ice to a shaker.
  6. Shake vigorously for 15 seconds, then strain into prepared glasses. Top with more ice and a skewer of fresh berries if desired. Enjoy!
