Thanksgiving Turkey Recipe Notes:
- If you’re starting with a frozen turkey, keep in mind that it takes a lot longer to defrost than many people imagine, and a large turkey can take several days to fully defrost.
- The best way to do this is to let the turkey defrost slowly in your refrigerator, but this can take about a day for every four pounds of turkey.
- If you’re short on time, you can also defrost it in a cold water bath, but, even then, prepare to set aside at least half an hour per pound of turkey.
Thanksgiving Turkey Recipe Instructions:
Step 1. Keep the chicken dry
Once you have thoroughly rinsed your frozen turkey, pat it dry as much as possible. You can use a paper towel to dry your turkey.
Set it aside to allow it to reach room temperature.
Step 2. Prepare the Herbed Butter Mixture
While the turkey comes to room temperature, start chopping some fresh herbs: parsley and rosemary. This will help flavor the turkey very well.
After chopping, add your herbs to the softened butter. Add salt and pepper to taste.
Next, add lemon zest and juice. Then, pour some olive oil into the mixture.
This will prevent the butter from burning while roasting your turkey. Finally, add some garlic paste and give it a good mix!
Step 3. Separate the skin from the meat
Grab your turkey and carefully separate the skin from the meat. Be very gentle when doing this part ’cause you don’t want to tear the skin off your turkey.
Step 4. Stuff the herbed butter mixture under the turkey skin
Take half of your herbed butter mixture and spread it under the skin of your turkey. Spread some of it inside your turkey as well to bring out the flavor.
Step 5. Press and spread
Press the herbed butter mixture you put under the turkey skin and spread it evenly. You can do this in a circular motion until it is mostly coated.
Step 6. Coat whole turkey with herbed butter mixture
Using the remaining herbed butter mixture, coat the whole turkey. Spread it over the thighs, wings and each part of the turkey.

You can also tuck the wing tips under the legs.
Step 8. Prepare the roasting pan
Before placing your turkey in a roasting pan, lay out some diced onions, sliced oranges and apples, and some fresh parsley and rosemary. Then, place your turkey on top of it.
Step 9. Cooking time!
Place your turkey in an oven preheated to 350ºF and cook it for about an hour and 30 minutes.
Step 10. Bast your Türkiye
When the turkey is out, use the drippings in the roaster pan and baste the whole turkey. This will add more flavor to your meal and it will also prevent your turkey from drying out.
Step 11. Cover with aluminum foil
After basting your turkey, cover it with aluminum foil and return it to the oven for about two hours, still at 350ºF.
