My fall cocktail criteria

Although I love a summery sip like spaghetti or tinto de verano, there’s just something extra warm and sweet about sipping on a cocktail in the fall.

My favorite fall cocktails have a strong liqueur as a base, like whiskey, rum, or tequila. The best ones also bring delicious fall flavors like apple, ginger, or even pumpkin.

Our Apple Cider Bourbon cocktail is a perfect example! Or for something simpler, a wine recipe you just can’t screw up.

What gives this fall margarita its smoky flavor?

Oftentimes, when you see a “smoky” flavored cocktail on a menu, it involves a very fancy mix and the setting on fire of something.

Not today, friends!

Not that I don’t think it’s cool that they do this whole “light the garnishes on fire and trap the smoke to flavor your cocktail” thing. It’s just a huge pain.

And kind of…flammable.

So we have a workaround that’s not only easy, but adds something extra special to your fall margarita: Smoked salt!

Smoked salt is a fun and unexpected seasoning to keep in your arsenal. Not only are they great for cooking, but they make the perfect salt rim on smoked apple margaritas. without setting anything whatever on fire.

The components you will need

tequila. I prefer the golden tequila for this recipe, partly for the color but mostly for the way the other fall flavors blend.

Grand Marnier. The orange flavors in this liqueur provide a perfect balance and purity to the drink.

Apple juice. Definitely opt for apple juice instead of apple juice! Apple juice tends to be fresh and not too sweet.

ginger beer. I love a ginger beer that has a little spice to it for my margaritas this fall! Reeds’ or Bundaberg are my personal favourites.

Smoked salt. Smoked salt is key to the relaxing feelings this cocktail evokes. Highly recommended.

Fresh lemon. Always choose fresh citrus juice when mixing cocktails!

decorations. Anything that conjures fall for you will work! We used thin slices of apple, cinnamon stick, star anise, and rosemary.
