Pinch pleats curtains

Sorry, I have to start with my all-time favorite type of curtain: zip pleat curtains. You may have heard this term, but let me break it down for you quickly. These curtains are very beautiful without much effort. Once I started investing in mini pleated curtains, I swear my decorating game improved a lot.

What sets them apart is the way the fabric is gathered into neat folds at the top, creating a structured and formal look. It’s like decorating your windows with stylish clothes that impress without overdoing it.

  • Whether you are aiming for a traditional or modern look, narrow pleat curtains can adapt to different interior styles effortlessly.
  • Pleats add volume to the fabric, giving your windows a luxurious, full look that’s hard to ignore.
  • The pleats will naturally give your curtains a neat and tidy look.
  • They can be expensive, especially custom ones!
  • Timeless look – always in fashion.

My favorite zip pleat curtains are these affordable zip pleat curtains on Amazon and TwoPage Curtains.

Blackout curtains

Let’s talk about blackout curtains. You know those days when you just want to enjoy some decent sleep without being rudely interrupted by street lights or the sun? That’s where these babies come in – they’re like your sleepover superheroes. If we could get our kids to sleep a little longer, that wouldn’t hurt either – am I right?

  • Control light like you wouldn’t believe. It’s like having your own dim light in the room.
  • Have you ever heard of noise reduction? These curtains act as soundproofing for your windows. Perfect for eliminating the clutter of the city or the neighbors’ late-night parties.
  • It’s energy efficient too. Keeping your room warm in the winter and cool in the summer, it acts as a shield against extreme temperatures.
  • They can be heavy to hang and can be expensive for quality blinds.

Blackout curtains are a type of curtain, but you can get pleated blackout curtains, velvet blackout curtains and so on. It is the curtain lining that makes them opaque

Cafe curtains

Love me some cafe curtains. Café curtains add a charming country house feel to your spaces. They are elegant, practical, and give your room an extra touch of appeal.

These half curtains cover the bottom half of your window, providing privacy without blocking all the beautiful natural light. Perfect for keeping those nosy neighbors out of your business while letting the sunshine in. Sometimes we want softness but the window doesn’t allow for a full-length curtain—like the window over the kitchen sink.

  • These still give you some privacy and softness as you can hang full length curtains.
  • It still allows light into the room by keeping the top half of the window exposed.
  • It is very easy to make your own cafe curtains, and they are usually very affordable to purchase.
  • Charming and cozy country house feels very popular now.

When it comes to hanging it, don’t skimp on the equipment, my friend. A simple, elegant rod (brass or black is always a winner in my book) will allow your cafe curtains to shine without stealing the show. And remember, measurements are important, you don’t want it to be too long or too short.

Grommet curtains

I’m sure you know grommet blinds. You know, the ones with the rings at the top? This isn’t my all time personal favorite, but I can see where people really like it. They are easy to hang and the rings give your curtains a good pleated look. Grommet curtains can be a bit outdated.

  • Grommet curtains have a chic, contemporary feel that can instantly spruce up a room. Perfect for adding a touch of elegance without overdoing it.
  • These grommets make opening and closing these curtains easy. No more struggling with hooks or lines, just glide smoothly along the rod.
  • These curtains are available in most places and are usually fairly inexpensive. Plus – no need to purchase additional curtain rings.
  • Its appearance can be a bit old.

Transparent or semi-transparent curtains

We move on to sheer curtains, those beautiful transparent curtains that add a touch of softness and elegance to any room. Sheer curtains are great for letting in natural light while providing a little privacy. They are perfect for creating a soft and dreamy atmosphere in your space. Plus, it’s a great way to add a layer of texture without overwhelming the room. These curtains can also be semi-sheer, which is slightly heavier than sheer and provides more privacy, but allows light through.

Rod pocket curtains

Let’s talk about Rod Pocket Blinds – they are a classic choice for your window. These curtains have a pocket at the top that slips over a curtain rod, creating soft gatherings for a traditional, casual look. Or you can hang these curtains from the clip rings, as I show here this picture…

Frequently asked questions

How do I determine my curtain style?

You should do a little research! Go on Pinterest, browse the internet and look at home magazines. Find out which curtain styles you tend to gravitate towards again and again. Create a Pinterest board of your favorite room’s curtains, and see if you notice a pattern. Personally, I adore tight pleats and velvet drapes. I love a heavy curtain that looks romantic and makes a statement.

Can I have different types of curtains throughout my home?

Sure, you can hang different types of curtains in your home! It’s your house – your rules! You do whatever makes you happy and looks good on you. However, if you want a little tip, I like to keep the same type of curtains in areas that are open to each other, such as an open plan kitchen and dining area. Too many mismatched curtains can be an eyesore if not done correctly and it’s best to keep things symmetrical, in my opinion.
