I almost cry when I look at these photos from New Year’s Eve 2018!

That year, I suddenly decided to throw a little New Year’s Eve party and didn’t even get a chance to share everything we did. But I saved all the pictures and finally was able to write down the instructions.

So, we’re starting with the most adorable printable New Year’s Party Beanie Template!

I love this party hat template because the hats are petite so they are the perfect size for kids but look so cute on adults too.

How to use the template to make your own party hats

Material

  1. Download the party hat template above. If you are hand cutting the hats, print the file on the back side of the patterned cardstock. Print as many sheets of hats as you want.
  2. If you are using a cutting machine, upload the party hat template file to your cutting machine software and cut your hats. We were able to mount two hats on one sheet of 12″ x 12″ cardstock.
  3. Once your hats are cut, start assembling. Gently twist one hat onto itself to form a cone. Insert the tab on one side of the hat into the slot on the other side of the hat so the cone stays in place. If you wish, reinforce the seam with clear tape. (We skipped this step and they stayed fine.)
  4. Cut an elastic band long enough to fit under the chin. Press the tabs on either side of the cap slightly inward. Then wrap each end of the elastic around each anchor. You can tie the ends of the elastic band first if you feel it holds together better. Otherwise, you can just twist it a few times and it should stay put.
  5. If you want pompom caps, use a small dot of hot glue to attach the pompoms to the top of each cap.

Turn your hats into a festive activity for kids

If you like, you can select party hats you made using our template, along with some decorative stickers that kids might love.

Let your kids decorate their hats with stickers galore.

This was a huge hit for us! It gave the kids something to do and they all had their hats on all night.

It was so much fun to see the stickers each child chose – some even decorated with party horns or blowers.

For the stickers, I recommend making some 3D stickers, because they look really cool on the hats. These were the first to go. Other big successes were alphabet stickers and rhinestones.
