Pressing flowers allows you to capture a moment, creating a beautiful keepsake. You can press flowers from bouquets (such as from a wedding or baby shower) or those you discover in new places.
Whether keeping flowers as keepsakes or as a hobby, the next step is to find a way to display your creations. One of our favorite ideas Turn your pressed flowers into coasters. Today, we will show you how.
The best flowers for pressing are flat lays. (Generally, ones that don’t have a ton of petals are a good choice because they’re not too crunchy.)
Flowers with delicate petals are also a good option because they hold less moisture.
Materials needed for pressed flower coasters:
- piece of wood
- pressed flowers
- Cream acrylic paint
- decoupage glue
- Paint brush
How to make these coasters:
Step 1: Paint the center of the wood piece
Paint the middle of the wood with your choice of color using acrylic paint. In this case, we chose a light and neutral color to distinguish the flowers.
Apply the paint with a paintbrush, without touching the rim of the bark.
Step 2: Apply a coat of glue
Once the acrylic paint is dry, apply a coat of decoupage glue on top. Decoupage will prepare the surface for pressed flowers.
Step 3: Place a pretty flower in the center
Pick a flower for the center of the coaster and gently place it in place. Then dip your paintbrush in more decoupage glue and coat the flowers.
Step 4: Add 4 small flowers around it
Add four more flowers around the center flower. (They may be smaller and a different color.)
Cover each flower with a layer of decoupage glue once you have placed it on the coaster.
Once all the flowers are in place, add a final coat of glue to seal the coaster. Wait for the decoupage to cure completely before using your new pressed flower coasters.
