If you want smooth, perfect mussels, you can buy a bag from your local craft store instead of collecting them from the beach. And the bonus of store-bought mussels? No need to clean them. The air-drying, white clay is user-friendly and easy to use, but keep in mind that clay shapes need to dry overnight before painting and attaching them to the seashells, so add that time to your plans.

If kids will be working with glue, they may want to use regular glue instead of hot glue, but it will take longer to set. I prefer to keep the shells in their original condition, unpainted, but you can certainly paint the shells for a different look.

You can also make these sea shell creatures as decorations for a beach-themed party. Want some sweets too? Make Sea Creatures Candy Pops or make candy clay balls,
