Today is the last day the holiday decorations will be up, then I’m packing them all up tomorrow. Another day to relax and look at the twinkle lights and ornaments before all the garlands and garlands leave the house.
I spend the day sipping tea while it rains outside all day. Later I’m making soup and taking a long winter nap. I’ve already got a list that I want to complete in the next few months I’m putting the finishing touches on our home study/library space and I’ll share that next week. It is so comfortable!
Meanwhile, I’ll take advantage of winter’s short days and long dark nights with both productive and relaxing activities to make the most of these cold months. Here are a few ideas you might find useful too!
Organize memories: Old printed photos that need to go into albums or digital clutter that needs to be deleted from your phone. Now is the time to finally organize them during your long dark evenings.
Hug Hug: What a beautiful winter word to describe when the sun comes out on a cold winter day. Walk outside to soak up some vitamin D any chance you get.
Clean and Declutter: This is the most popular activity in January for a fresh start: organizing, donating and closing. Try the 30-day minimalism game like I did and you’ll love how your home looks at the end of the month.
Visit: Head south of the border to escape the cold and feel the sand between your toes, or take a trip to the mountains in a rental cabin where you can play in the snow or ski down the slopes.
Host a Game Night: Gather a healthy dose around the dining room table for board games, poker night or a competitive game between teams.
Plan your spring/summer garden: Now is a good time to stock up on seed starting supplies and map out your garden for spring planting! When the soil is ready you will be ahead.
Prioritize movement: As comfortable as your bed or sofa may be, the body needs daily movement. Bend and stretch, schedule that yoga class and show up to the gym when you can.
Learn a new skill. Are you thinking of starting a hobby? Or have a skill you want to acquire? Photography, ceramics, painting, or knitting? Winter is perfect for learning a new skill online or in an in-person class.
Go for a walk in the forest: Wrap yourself in your warmest blanket and step out to breathe the fresh air of the evergreen grove.
Plan a spa day: Warm bubbly water on a cold winter day = bliss! Find a local spa or hotel that offers a day pass to enjoy some relaxation in the hot springs. Or set up all your exfoliation and moisturizing products and enjoy a day of pampering your skin and hair.
Play indoor sports: Meet up with friends at your local bowling or billiard hall to play some competitive indoor games.
rest: Stay dormant like nature and get plenty of rest. Enjoy the comfort of your bed or the softness of your favorite throw blanket, fall asleep and take a long winter’s sleep.
The good news is that the days are getting longer now that winter is over and spring will be here in just a few months
